Converged infrastructure

Is used to centralize the management of IT resources, consolidate systems, increase resource utilization rates, and reduce costs. This is done by creating pools of computers, storage, and networking resources that can be shared by multiple applications and managed in a collective manner by using policy-driven processes.

Data shredding

Is the process of deleting data so that it cannot be recovered.

Data Storage as a Service (DaaS)

Data Storage as a Service or Daas is a business model in which a large company rents its storage infrastructure to a smaller company or individual.

Digital archive

Is a repository of digital information objects. Digital archives can be a sophisticated, multi-tiered storage system, or simply the drive c on a computer.

Disk array

Is a hardware element that contains a large group of hard disk drives (HDDs). It has an architecture that improves speed and increases data protection.

Disk array subsystem

A disk subsystem which includes control software with the ability to organize its disks as disk arrays.

Disk block

The unit on which data is stored and retrieved on a disk with a fixed block architecture.

Disk cache

Is a mechanism that improves the time it takes to read from or write to a hard disk. It is usually included as part of the hard disk.

Disk striping

A technique that spreads data over multiple disk drives. It quickly retrieves data from disk storage. The computer system breaks a body of data into units and spreads these units across the available disks.

Embedded storage controller

Is an intelligent storage controller that mounts in a host computer’s housing and attaches directly to a host’s memory bus with no intervening I/O adapter or I/O bus.
